"Academia lives in a world of how we want it to be, not how it really is out there."
- quote from PhD faculty administrator
at major university / 2025
Dear Parents -- You continue to serve as your young professional's biggest cheerleader, supporter, friend, "investor", life counselor, caregiver, and so much more (including yeah, the often 'I'll-take-care-of-that-for-you' task master! Come on, we secretly enjoy that!). My wife (Neeta) and I can relate as our son (Kian) is graduating college and entering the Finance professional workforce in Summer 2025.
You have all these amazing roles and perhaps also have some knowledge of job searching as a professional in your own pursuits. Yet in career guidance and the job search process (err, 'madness!') you and your young adult(s) often can benefit from an objective and trained partner being side-by-side with you on their journey.
Further, at our colleges/universities where we have invested $XXX,000 in our young adults for career/life success, the Career Services Staff and Professors/Faculty can only do so much. Why?
--> First, there are simply too many students and not enough staff. They cannot provide sufficient one-on-one in depth time, tailored to each unique individual.
--> And most critical, they are not out in the professional workforce world. They simply have not interviewed, hired, and guided hundreds upon hundreds of professionals across multiple functions. They have not had to sift through and make hiring-decisions across thousands and thousands of cover letters, resumes, and LinkedIn profiles. They have not gone through a "LinkedIn Jobs School" and understand ATS systems that recruiters use.
"Real world", battle-hardened, business operating experience -- matters.
